Following 1200 years of obscurity, the ancient Egyptian city of Heracleion, famously recognized as the lost city of Heracleion, has been found and extensively explored beneath the water’s surface.

The first city of Atlantis is iconic by now, to say the least. Even if you’re not a conspiracy theorist yourself, it’s fun to know about; it’s easy.

But the thing about this is that it’s just what it is. Most cities that are known by the general public, we need to focus on our collective knowledge so we can educate the masses on every other city out there too.

imageThe Lost City of Heracleion, an ancient Egyptian city, was discovered and explored underwater after 1,200 years.

Originally an ancient Egyptian city near the Canopic Mouth of the Nile, around 20 miles northeast of Alexandria, Heracleion was, at its peak, the largest city at the time.

imageAccording to tales, however, it was sunk deep inside of what is what makes it what it is and ages.

The first to mention Heracleion was the legendary historian from the 5th century BC, Herodotus, around 1500 years ago. He writes about it, mentioning Heracleion of Troy and her lover Paris are too.

imageSince Heracleion was such a beautiful place, they would run off together to it and frolic around like the small love birds that they were.

imageIt was originally discovered in 2001 by a group of archaeologists led by Frank Goddio.

imageThey were searching for Napoleon’s warships from the 1798 Battle of the Nile, so they never expected to make this discovery, to say the least.
